How Expensive Is Free Traffic
Janis Joplin once sang “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose. Nothing ain’t worth nothing, but it’s free!” Kris Kristofferson actually wrote that song and in some ways we could be talking about Internet website traffic.
Internet traffic can be free depending on the type of traffic you are getting.
For example article marketing is a popular way to drive traffic to websites. You write articles and include a link to your website in your resource box.
When people read the article if they like it they will click on the link and you will get a free visitor to your website. However you must ask yourself the question, is this really free?
One point of view is that the time you invest into your business does cost you something. Smart Internet marketers actually assign any hourly value to their time.
When you first start out you may say every hour I invest is costing me $10 an hour. So if you work five hours a week you would hope to at the very least have earned $50 to break even.
If you are spending the majority of your time getting traffic to your website you will see a return back for your investment eventually.
Where people get in trouble is they spend time online doing things like listening to music, playing games, hanging out in social forms, and so on. It’s tough to get a return on your investment when you are not actually working.
So when you analyze the free traffic you’re getting you can determine how expensive it is by establishing an hourly rate your time is worth. As long as you are focusing on getting traffic it may not cost you anything monetarily, but you will know what it’s costing you in terms of your time.
